Women's Film Circuit Coming Here Soon

Oven Productions, the Case Western Reserve University Women's Center, and Moonforce Media, Inc. present the second series of the National Women's Film Circuit in Cleveland. The Circuit is a nationwide series of showings of films by and about women and represents the finest in feminist filmmaking today. The films were selected from over 100 entries in the Circuit Festival held in Washington, D.C. in August, 1975. The six films which will be shown cover a wide variety of subject matters and filmmaking styles.

The premiere of the Circuit was reviewed by Sister, a Los Angeles newspaper, as follows: "It presents women as involved in a process of changing and wanting to change their conditions. The whole package is positive and hopeful.”

The films will be shown on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21, beginning at 8:30 p.m. The showings will be at Schmitt Auditorium on the CWRU campus (enter from Adelbert Rd.). Tickets are $2 and are available at the door. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. Free child care is available by reservation: call 371-1697.

All the films were made within the last few years by individual women or women's film groups. "The Emerging Woman", produced by the Women's Film Project, is a fascinating documentary history which shows the varied economic, social, and cultural experiences of women in the U.S. Linda Klosky's "And Then There Were" is a delightful animation done by the mosaic cutout technique. Barbara Hammer's "Dyketactics" is a very sensual exploration of women loving women. "Like A Rose" from Tomato Productions documents the experience of women in prison as seen through the eyes of two women currently serving 25-year sentences in Missouri. "Fear" by Jean Shaw recounts one young woman's struggle with a rapist. "A Foot in the Clouds" produced by Doe Mayer is a colorful drama about a controversial woman teacher who comes to a small town and creates some changes.

BeBe KRoche

Be Be K'Roche, the band that kept 1500 women on their feet and boogeying for 3 hours at the Michigan Women's Music Festival last summer, is coming to town! Even if you didn't hear them in Michigan, or hear about them afterwards, you still may have heard their music: "Kahlua Mama" is a popular selection on the jukebox at the Three of Cups, the new women's bar. Be Be K'Roche plays mostly original music--a sensual blend of latin, rhythm and blues, jazz, and rock. They have been widely acclaimed in both mainstream and feminist culture; the band's first album on the Olivia label was a "Recommended LP" by Billboard Magazine. They are just simply good, one of the first successful attempts at making women's music great dancing music as well.

Be Be K'Roche is Jake Lampert, drums and vocals; Peggy Mitchell, bass and vocals; and Virginia Rubino, keyboards and vocals. Virginia has written most of the band's music and is the powerful lead singer on many of the songs. All of the women have been playing for years and are well-grounded in many styles; it shows in the quality and tightness of their music together. Kim Johnson is their manager; Karen Wallace is sound-

woman.

BeBe K'Roche will perform in Cleveland on Friday, June 3. As of this writing (mid-April 10,) a hall has not been confirmed--more information will be coming soon on that. Admission is $3.50. The dance begins at 9 p.m. Free child care is available by calling 371-1697 in advance. The event is open to the public. Advance tickets are available at all

Oven Productions outlets.
